According to the Associated Press, the match was held at Bank of America Stadium in North Carolina, with a temperature of 97 degrees Fahrenheit (about 36 degrees Celsius). Benfica forward Gianluca Prestianni received treatment from the medical team due to heat-related issues in the 25th minute of the first half and was substituted in the 55th minute.
Although Benfica had previously faced Bayern Munich with a record of 3 draws and 10 losses, this was their 14th encounter, and Benfica finally achieved their first victory against them.
