On June 24, Malaysian national badminton men's doubles coach Peng Weixin responded to external speculation, emphasizing that his recent meeting with Indonesian badminton men's doubles legend Ahsan was just a reunion between a mentor and his former student, and had nothing to do with badminton. Recently, Ahsan posted a photo of their meeting in Kuala Lumpur on his personal social media IG, sparking speculation about whether he would join the Malaysian badminton coaching team.
Peng Weixin clarified that his recent meeting with Ahsan was just a casual dinner between former mentor and disciple, and was unrelated to badminton.
In this regard, Peng Weixin explained to Malaysian media today: "He (Ahsan) came to Malaysia to attend an event for his sponsor Victor and called me to say he wanted to meet. He was my former student, so we just went out for dinner and chatted, that's all."
Peng Weixin further stated: "This is what we Indonesians call 'kangen' (missing), it's simply a meeting between friends, with no other implications, and it has nothing to do with badminton." When asked if he took the opportunity of this "catch-up" to invite Ahsan to coach in Malaysia, Peng Weixin smiled and denied: "No, not at all."
