Peng Weixin hopes that the Malaysian men's doubles can win the championship again at the Japan or China Badminton Open in July 2025.

The head coach of the Malaysian national badminton team for men's doubles, Peng Weixin, remains eager for victory. Recently, he stated clearly that he hopes his players can bring home a title at the upcoming 2025 Japan or China Badminton Open, achieving further success for Malaysia.

The world tour entered a break after the Indonesia Badminton Super 1000 tournament earlier this month, with the next two top-tier events scheduled for next month. The Japan Badminton Super 750 tournament will take place in Tokyo from July 15 to 20, with a total prize pool of $950,000; the China Badminton Super 1000 tournament will be held in Changzhou from July 22 to 27, boasting a total prize pool of up to $2 million.

At 62 years old, Peng Weixin expressed to Malaysian media after a training session at the Malaysian Badminton Academy this morning, “I personally hope our players can win one of the championships in Japan or China to bring glory to the country.”

The training progress is promising. Peng Weixin is also satisfied with the preparation of his players: “So far, I believe the training preparations have been very good. Whether for the Japan or China tournaments, our overall condition is on track.”

Since taking charge of the Malaysian national men's doubles in February this year, the Indonesian coach nicknamed “Dragon Coach” has achieved significant results. He not only led the former world champions, the “Xie Su combination” of Xie Dingfeng and Su Weiyi, to win the titles at the Asian Badminton Championships, the Thailand Badminton Super 500, and the Singapore Badminton Super 750; meanwhile, the “Congwen combination” of Wan Weichong and Zheng Kaiwen also claimed victory at the Malaysian Badminton Super 500.

The other men's doubles teams need time to catch up with Xie Su and Congwen. However, Peng Weixin admitted that the other young combinations in the Malaysian national team, such as the “Aye combination” of Arif and Ye Ruiqing, and the “Honghai combination” of Zhong Hongjian and Haikal, are still in the catching-up phase. He pointed out, “The adaptation period for each pair is different. Xie Su and Congwen are more mature combinations that adapted to my training style in just two to three months. But the other young combinations need more time, especially Honghai, as they have not competed for a long time due to injuries.”

Regarding Haikal's unstable psychological state due to injury, Peng Weixin revealed, “I told him that it is impossible to achieve everything at once. Each player's adaptation time is different; some adjust quickly, while others take longer. Haikal needs time to improve his competitive state, especially on the psychological level.”
