On Tuesday, the Diamondbacks announced that an MRI revealed a bone fragment fracture in their star player Corbin Carroll's left wrist, leading to his placement on the injured list.
Previously, Carroll had missed four consecutive games after being hit by a pitch on his hand last Wednesday in Toronto (Thursday in Beijing). Initial X-rays were negative, but the MRI detected wrist damage.
The injury occurred during the eighth inning of the Diamondbacks' 1-8 loss to the Blue Jays when left-handed pitcher Justin Bruihl hit him with a 91.4 mph sinker. Carroll managed to run the bases before leaving the game.
This season, the Diamondbacks have been plagued by injuries: ace pitcher Corbin Burnes and closer Justin Martinez will require ligament replacement surgery; left-handed reliever A.J. Puk is seeking a second opinion for elbow discomfort.
In the same game against the White Sox, Eugenio Suárez and Josh Naylor also exited early.
