The most significant recent move in Major League Baseball was the trade of the Boston Red Sox's star player, Rafael Devers, to the San Francisco Giants. Just five days after the trade on the 20th, Devers faced his old team, but he went 0 for 5 in the game, while the Red Sox ultimately won 7-5.
In his first game as an opponent against the Red Sox, Devers mentioned in an interview before the game that he felt he had left some records with the Red Sox and believed he had earned some respect.
The split between the Red Sox and Devers occurred because the team initially asked him to serve as a designated hitter and later requested he play first base, both of which Devers was unwilling to accept. He felt disrespected by the team, which ultimately led to a deterioration of their relationship.
"If they had told me from the start of spring training that I was going to play first base, I would have done it," Devers said. Now, he believes the past is behind him, and many of his former Red Sox teammates are still friends.
Devers pointed out that he wouldn't be the first player to be traded, nor will he be the last. People will always have opinions, and for him, it's just about turning the page in his life.
Looking ahead with the Giants, Devers is preparing to take on first base, stating, "I'll be ready to play when the time comes."
