The Los Angeles Dodgers announced today that they have moved Japanese rookie right-hander Roki Sasaki to the 60-day injured list to make room for left-handed pitcher Zach Penrod, who was acquired from the Red Sox in exchange for cash considerations.
Sasaki has been on the injured list since May 13 due to right shoulder impingement syndrome. His rookie season performance has been struggling: he has a record of 1 win and 1 loss with an ERA of 4.72 over 8 starts, pitching 34.1 innings (averaging less than 4.1 innings per game) with 22 walks and only 24 strikeouts.
Zach Penrod, 28, was designated for assignment on June 15. He made his MLB debut in 2024, appearing in 7 games with an ERA of 2.25. In Triple-A Worcester this season, he has played in 6 games with a record of 0 wins and 1 loss, posting an ERA of 5.68 over 6.1 innings with 7 strikeouts. In his minor league career, he has appeared in 37 games (22 starts) with 102.1 innings pitched, an ERA of 4.05, 10 wins and 6 losses, and 138 strikeouts. He joined the Rangers in 2018 as an undrafted free agent from Northwest Nazarene University.
